World Cafe's Sense of Place: Charlottesville

Tune in to World Cafe today to hear us tell the story of our hometown of Charlottesville, VA. From Suz’s childhood as a homeschooler in the 1980s, to our first DWM show in 2009 at the Twisted Branch Tea Bazaar, to the alt-right riots in 2017 at Emancipation Park. Let us know what station you hear it on— or go to World Cafe || NPR Music to listen.

It was tremendously meaningful to us to spend time with Kallao and producer Kimberly Junod as we tried our best to give them a “sense of place” for Charlottesville. And it was made all the more special when we ran into Suz’s dad who got to tell about his experience on August 12, 2017.
